We’re Here Now Films. We started in Cornwall, and we still make films here, from our Newquay office.

Our founders work from our Newquay office, on Mount Wise, and our headquarters is at 124 City Road in London. Agencies, production companies and brands book our crews, and so do teams flying in from the US and Europe. Our own Cornish shoots include Cohere on the Lizard, on 35mm, Whistlefish’s first TV ad, Airbnb’s Guardians of Cornwall, campaigns for Heligan, The Living Layer on Bodmin Moor and in West Penwith, Kärcher at Bude and films for Tate St Ives. Our producers know who has to say yes on the coast, from Cornwall Council to the National Trust and the harbour masters. If you need the film made as well as shot, that’s our video production in Cornwall.

Rates and set-ups

Crew rates in Cornwall. The benchmark, our rate, and what goes on top.

We price every role against the APA/Bectu card: the rates the APA agrees with Bectu for commercials, and the clearest benchmark the industry has. Each role’s page sets our day rate against it, and that rate goes to the crew member in full. On top go our 10% booking fee and 2% insurance, on everything we book for you, kit included. Cornwall adds a few lines of its own, each shown separately: Cornwall Council’s location fee for filming on its land, parking dispensations at £20 a vehicle a day (checked October 2026), and travel and hotels for any crew who come down from Bristol, Devon or London. If we take the production on, it’s quoted as a production instead.

Two ways to book

One question sets the price: who’s the producer of record?

Crew hire

You run the shoot.

10% + 2% booking fee and insurance, on everything we book for you: crew, kit and travel.

We do

  • Find, book and brief the crew, and pay them
  • Book kit, travel and hotels too, if you want them
  • Send the full price before anything is booked
  • One person to call all day
  • Employers’ liability for the crew we book, and insurance on kit we hire in

You do

  • Run the shoot, or your producer does
  • The plan, the schedule and the call sheet
  • The location, its permission and its public liability
  • Responsibility for the production: you’re the producer of record

What the 2% insures: employers’ liability for every crew member we book, and the kit we hire in for you. Nothing else on the shoot. A large kit rental may need extra insurance, as its own line on the quote.

Full production

We’re the producer of record.

15% + 5% production fee, plus insurance and contingency, on the whole production budget. Quoted as a production.

We do

  • Our producer plans it with you and runs the day
  • Locations, permits, kit, studio, travel and hotels, booked and paid in our name
  • Insurance for the whole shoot, public liability included, plus the risk assessment and the call sheet
  • One contract and one invoice, so overseas teams need no UK company

You do

  • The creative calls
  • Signing off the plan and the budget

What the 5% pays for: our production insurance across the whole shoot, £10m public liability included, and the contingency.

Not sure which you need? If your own producer or director will run the day, it’s crew hire. If you want us to take the production on, it’s a full production quote. VAT on top of both. 50% by card when you book, 50% on receipt of the final rushes.

Worked example. Crew hire: a DOP and a sound recordist for one day £1,568 + VAT
DOP, day rate£850
Sound recordist, day rate£550
Booking fee, 10%£140
Insurance, 2%£28
KitTheir own, or hired in at the same 10% + 2%
Total£1,568 + VAT
Worked example. Full production: the same two and our producer, before kit £2,220 + VAT
DOP, day rate£850
Sound recordist, day rate£550
Our producer, day rate£450
KitAt cost, under the same 15% + 5%: a two-camera interview kit is from £765 a day
Production fee, 15%£277.50
Insurance and contingency, 5%£92.50
Total, before kit£2,220 + VAT

Every day rate is for an 11-hour day including lunch, with overtime at card rates, agreed with you before it happens. The card is the APA/Bectu commercials rates from 1 September 2026, fixed until at least August 2027. Each role’s rate is in the crew above, and set against the card on its own page.

Common set-ups

Services

Everything around the crew.Kit, places, permits and the rest.

Most bookings need more than people. We sort these with the crew, and each one gets its own line on the quote. If you’d rather sort them yourself, each one has its own Cornwall guide: who says yes, what it costs, and how much notice it wants. The permits are also summarised just below.

A 35mm film camera with a loaded magazine on the back, a camera assistant’s hand on the controls

01

Kit rental

Wet hire with the crew’s own kit, which often comes in cheaper, or dry hire from The Cornish Camera Co. in West Cornwall and Falmouth University’s film school stores, which hire to outside productions on 24 hours’ notice: a Sony FX6 kit there is £200 a day plus VAT (checked October 2026). Bigger kit comes down from Bristol or London.

Film equipment hire in Cornwall

St Ives harbour at sunrise, Cornwall, with boats moored below the town’s stacked houses

02

Locations and permits

Cornwall Council for its beaches, woods and parks, through FilmApp, from £180 a day for online content to £1,500 for a commercial; the National Trust, Natural England and the Duchy of Cornwall for much of the coast; the harbour masters for the harbours. All checked October 2026.

Filming in Cornwall: locations and permits

A camera team checking a shot on a sound stage, a timber set build and a lighting truss behind them

03

Studios and set builds

Screen Cornwall says Cornwall has no film studios; the nearest stages are The Bottle Yard in Bristol. Falmouth University hires out its film school studios: Studio 1 is 154 square metres, at £750 a day plus VAT (checked October 2026). Converted barns and empty industrial buildings make pop-up studios, and set builds go on the quote with the crew.

Film studios in Cornwall

04

Props and wardrobe

Falmouth University’s wardrobe store lends period and contemporary costume to productions based in Cornwall, free for now, in return for experience for its students (checked October 2026). Hired props come from upcountry, and our stylists and hair and make-up artists run them on the day. Tell us at the brief if the film needs replica weapons: Cornwall Council’s code asks for special guidance before any firearms, staged crimes or police uniforms.

05

Logistics

The A30, the Night Riviera sleeper from Paddington, Cornwall Airport Newquay, parking dispensations at £20 a vehicle a day, unit bases in council car parks, narrow lanes, tides and weather days, and crew hotels booked early in summer. All checked October 2026.

DIT and data

Cards checked and copied on set, and the rushes handed over at wrap, uploaded, or brought back to our edit in London. A Sony FX6 shooting 4K at 25p can write up to about 112 GB an hour, so the drives are sized to the day.

Permits, landowners and drones

Filming in Cornwall: permits, landowners and drones

Filming on Cornwall Council land, its beaches, woods, parks, gardens and old mining sites among them, needs a permit through FilmApp. Screen Cornwall’s Film Office gives advice, locations and introductions to landowners, but doesn’t issue the permits. On a full production we apply for every permission; on a crew hire they’re yours, and we’ll tell you who to ask.

Who says yes

Cornwall Council for its own land, through FilmApp, and its Street Works team for road closures. The coast has other owners too: the National Trust, the Duchy of Cornwall on the foreshore, English Heritage at Tintagel Castle, Natural England on much of the Lizard National Nature Reserve, and private estates. Car parks and access roads often belong to someone else again, so one sequence can need several permissions: our Cohere shoot on the Lizard needed three.

What the location fee costs

Cornwall Council’s 2026–27 location fee for a commercial, a feature or prime-time TV is £1,500 a full day or £900 a half day; documentary and daytime TV pay £660, and short films and online content £180. Drone permission is £216 a full day on top, every application pays a £10 admin fee, and it’s all paid upfront, VAT included (checked October 2026). Students, community films and productions made entirely in Cornish pay the admin fee only, and news pays nothing.

Insurance and the rules on the day

Cornwall Council asks for £5m public liability, a location-specific risk assessment and its Filming Code of Practice with every application, and no permit is issued until the fee clears. No vehicles on council land without specific permission, emergency access kept clear at all times, noise kept to a minimum at night, normally 22:00 to 08:00, and silent generators wherever possible. Cancelling needs 48 hours’ notice, or a late-cancellation fee applies.

Parking, unit bases and road closures

A parking dispensation for vehicles essential to filming is £20 a day per vehicle from Cornwall Council, with at least five working days’ notice, and never on double yellows, loading bays, footways, or disabled, taxi, bus or residents’ bays (checked October 2026). Unit bases in council car parks are agreed with the council’s Parking Team, outside FilmApp. Road closures go through Street Works with at least 12 weeks’ notice: a full temporary traffic regulation order is £1,942.50, or £2,137 inside 12 weeks. Cornwall Council on road closures

Drones, the Trust and the Mount

Cornwall Council’s drone permission is £216 a full day, or £132 a half day, on top of the location fee, with a flight path document, a CAA-qualified pilot, drone insurance and a drone risk assessment. The National Trust doesn’t allow unauthorised drones on or from its land, and grants commercial drone filming only through its Filming and Locations Office; English Heritage asks commercial pilots for flight plans and to fly outside opening hours; and St Michael’s Mount is a flight restricted zone, where flying needs written consent from Penzance Heliport, St Aubyn Estates and the National Trust at least two weeks ahead (checked October 2026). The National Trust on drones

The coast: the Trust, the Duchy and Natural England

The National Trust signs a contract with every commercial shoot at the places in its care, and its location fees fund conservation. The Duchy of Cornwall holds over 160 miles of Cornish foreshore, and Screen Cornwall points out that filming on the foreshore at low tide needs its own permission. On a Site of Special Scientific Interest, filming can be permitted with extra conditions, and anything on the site’s list of operations needs Natural England’s written consent, sought by the owner or occupier: a decision is aimed at 28 working days and can take up to four months (checked October 2026). Natural England on SSSI consent

Harbours, beaches and lifeguards

Cornwall Council’s harbour masters look after harbours including Newquay, Truro, Penzance and St Ives, and enforce their byelaws; Falmouth and Padstow have their own harbour commissioners. On the water, Screen Cornwall asks productions to tell the coastguard when and where they’re filming. RNLI lifeguards patrol 20 Cornish beaches in the 2026 season, Fistral, Perranporth, Porthmeor and Sennen every day of the season: tell the lifeguards before filming on a patrolled beach (checked October 2026). Tides set the day on most beaches, and ADMIRALTY EasyTide gives free predictions six days ahead.

Children on set

A child performing in a film, a TV programme or a commercial needs a licence from the council where the child lives (Cornwall Council for Cornish children), and it’s illegal for them to perform without one. A body of persons approval needs at least 21 days’ notice and a four-day-rule notification at least 28, and one chaperone can look after up to 12 children (checked October 2026). For Whistlefish’s first TV ad, with real families in front of the camera, we booked a chaperone for the children. Cornwall Council on children in entertainment

Sources

Every figure here was checked October 2026, with Cornwall Council (its 2026–27 fee guidelines and FilmApp terms), Screen Cornwall, the National Trust, the Duchy of Cornwall, Natural England, St Michael’s Mount and the RNLI. Fees change, so we confirm them on every quote.

Cornwall runs on UK time: five hours ahead of New York and eight ahead of Los Angeles for most of the year, and an hour behind Paris. We set calls, check-ins and rushes deliveries around your day.

Watching from home

Video playback can stream the monitors to wherever you are. For a US production company’s four days in the City of London and Uxbridge, the playback package carried a Teradek and a livestream licence.

Fixer, service company or crew hire?

They overlap. Here’s what each means, and what we do in Cornwall.

Crew hire

You run the shoot; we supply the people at their full day rate, plus our booking fee and insurance.

Fixer

A local who makes the shoot possible: permissions from Cornwall Council, the National Trust or a harbour master, locations, crew and the problems on the day. We’ll put a producer on it, from £450 a day, as we did for a US production’s startup series in Marylebone, London, in May 2025. UK film and TV fixers

Production service company

Delivers a whole shoot for a production based elsewhere: crew, kit, permits, insurance, payroll, transport and hotels. It’s what we did for a US production company’s four days in the City of London and Uxbridge in September 2025. Working with a UK production service company

Line producer

Location manager

How we pick
and vet crew

A call first, then past work and references, checked against the role and the brief. We source crew for each job from our books and our network, and rebook the people who do well. For schools, hospitals and care homes, we book crew with current DBS checks.

We book crew who live in Cornwall first, and bring them down from Bristol, Devon or London when the shoot needs more hands or a role that’s scarce here, with the travel and hotels on the quote before anything is booked. If a landowner wants every name, vehicle registration and kit list before the day, from a private estate on the Lizard to a working harbour, we send them with the booking.

Matt Dunstan
Here Now Films is always my first call when filming internationally in the UK. This was my second time working with them, and once again, they delivered above and beyond. On our most recent trip, they supported us a phenomenal key production assistant throughout the UK and a great DP in Manchester (a new city for us). They matched the exact camera and lighting kit I use back in the States keeping things consistent for our brand. What really stood out this time was the support from our key PA. He personally ushered me and my U.S.-based DP to every single shoot location throughout the week, and even drove me from London to Manchester. Always on time, if not early, and an excellent driver. I’ve always been uncomfortable driving on the opposite side of the road when traveling internationally, so that accommodation made a huge difference. The first time we worked together in London, they provided a full crew and both shoots ran flawlessly. Communication is always smooth, the team is kind, professional, and incredibly easy to work with. Most importantly, our clients are always happy when they’re involved. Looking forward to many more future projects together. Here Now is truly a go-to partner in the UK!
Response from the owner:Hey Matt, Thanks so much for the kind words. Honestly blown away by the above. If you ever need film crew support or video production assistance across London or the rest of the UK, we're here to help. Hope you and the team have a great end to the year in the USA! Best, Ed
Will Harris
These guys are fab and we will keep working with them in the future
Response from the owner:Thanks a lot Will, next time you need a TV Commercial we’ve got you covered.

I worked with a crew of four people from Here Now Films for a pilot project. Morgan, the organiser, was very proficient and quick to respond to communications. We met for the first time on the day with a bit of a hazy plan for a tricky shoot, but the crew took it all in their step and the final product was great. Would recommend.
Response from the owner:Thanks so much for the kind words Joe, it was a pleasure working on this with you. If you need us again, we’d be stoked to jump in and help.

Crew in Cornwall?
Join the list

We can crew a Cornish shoot from an interview day to a full unit on the coast, and we’d rather book crew who live in Cornwall than put a unit on the sleeper from Paddington. We pay you your full day rate on every job: our fee goes on the client’s side of the quote, not yours. Joining is free, and we only post real jobs. Openings at Here Now Films

Hiring a film crew in Cornwall: questions

How much does it cost to hire a film crew in Cornwall?

You pay each crew member’s day rate, which goes to them in full, plus our 10% booking fee and 2% insurance on everything we book, kit included. A DOP and a sound recordist for the day comes to £1,568 + VAT. Cornwall adds its own lines to the quote: Cornwall Council’s location fee if you’re filming on its land, from £180 a day for online content to £1,500 for a commercial, VAT included; parking dispensations at £20 a vehicle a day; and travel and hotels for any crew who come down from Bristol, Devon or London, all checked October 2026. If we’re the producer of record, it’s quoted as a production instead: everything at cost, plus a 15% production fee and 5% for insurance and contingency, and every production starts at £9,500.

What’s the difference between crew hire and a full production?

Who’s the producer of record. With crew hire, you or your producer run the shoot and carry the production: we find, book, brief and pay the crew, and book kit or travel if you want it, for 10% plus 2% insurance. With a full production, we take it on: our producer plans and runs it, and we book and pay for the crew, kit, locations, the Cornwall Council and landowner permissions, travel and crew hotels in our name, on one contract. That’s quoted as a production: everything at cost, plus 15% and 5% for insurance and contingency.

How many crew do you have in Cornwall?

We’re a crew agency with 2,800+ freelance crew on our books across the UK, 30+ of them in Cornwall, so we can scale a crew from one camera operator on a beach to a full unit on a clifftop. Some roles are thin on the ground down here: sound, lighting and grip, DIT, hair and make-up, costume and Steadicam. For those we bring crew from Bristol, Devon or London, with the travel and hotels on the quote before anything is booked. On the Lizard for Cohere, the 1st AC, the 2nd AC and the tracking vehicle team travelled in, and the crew stayed in Helston. We started in Cornwall: our founders work from our Newquay office, on Mount Wise, and our headquarters is at 124 City Road in London.

How far ahead should I book a crew in Cornwall?

Our team reads every brief within 2 working hours and comes back with names and the full price. What usually sets the date is permission, not crew. Cornwall Council asks for ten working days’ notice, or five for a crew under five with a handheld camera, and 12 weeks for any traffic management or road closure (checked October 2026). A parking dispensation takes five working days, a body of persons approval for children on set at least 21 days, and a drone near St Michael’s Mount two weeks; on a Site of Special Scientific Interest, Natural England’s consent can take up to four months. In summer, book the crew hotels early: Screen Cornwall warns that accommodation is limited.

Do I need permission to film in Cornwall?

On council land, yes. Filming on Cornwall Council land, its beaches, woods, parks, gardens and old mining sites among them, needs a permit through FilmApp. Screen Cornwall’s Film Office gives advice, locations and introductions to landowners, but doesn’t issue the permits. Cornwall Council’s 2026–27 location fee for a commercial is £1,500 a full day, £660 for documentary and daytime TV and £180 for online content, with drone permission £216 a full day on top and a £10 admin fee on every application, all paid upfront (checked October 2026). Cornwall Council asks for £5m public liability and a location-specific risk assessment with every application. Much of the coast has other owners, the National Trust, the Duchy of Cornwall and private estates among them, and car parks and access roads often belong to someone else again, so one sequence can need several permissions: our Cohere shoot on the Lizard needed three. On a full production we apply for all of it; on a crew hire it’s yours, and we’ll tell you who to ask.

Can you film on a beach or in a harbour?

Yes, with the owner’s permission. Council beaches go through FilmApp, with no vehicles on the sand without the council’s specific permission. The Duchy of Cornwall holds over 160 miles of Cornish foreshore, and Screen Cornwall points out that filming on the foreshore at low tide needs its own permission. RNLI lifeguards patrol 20 Cornish beaches in the 2026 season, Fistral, Perranporth, Porthmeor and Sennen every day of the season, and the lifeguards should be told before you film on a patrolled beach (checked October 2026). Harbours have their own rules: Cornwall Council’s harbour masters look after Newquay, Truro, Penzance and St Ives among others, and Falmouth and Padstow have harbour commissioners. On the water, tell the coastguard when and where you’re filming.

Can you fly a drone in Cornwall?

Yes, with the right permissions. Cornwall Council’s drone permission is £216 a full day on top of the location fee, with a flight path document and a CAA-qualified pilot; the National Trust and English Heritage don’t allow drones without permission, and St Michael’s Mount is a flight restricted zone (checked October 2026). Flying near the Mount needs written consent from Penzance Heliport, St Aubyn Estates and the National Trust at least two weeks ahead, and Cornwall Wildlife Trust asks for no drones on its reserves without permission, because many are breeding sites. Since 1 January 2026 the pilot needs a Flyer ID from 100g and an Operator ID from 250g, or 100g with a camera.

How do tides, lanes and weather affect a shoot in Cornwall?

They set the schedule. Tides decide when a beach can be filmed, and ADMIRALTY EasyTide gives free predictions six days ahead. Visit Cornwall warns that sat-navs send drivers down narrow lanes, so follow the road signs, and that the A30 is busy in peak season, school holidays and at weekends. Culdrose, on the Lizard, averages about 151 days a year with a millimetre of rain or more, and a mean wind of 12 knots (Met Office 1991–2020 averages). On the Lizard for Cohere, a fortnight of good forecasts turned to fog the night before, and the call moved up to 07:00 to catch the mist.

Do Cornish crew bring their own kit?

Many own theirs, from camera packages to lighting kits, and it goes on the quote as its own line so you can compare. Otherwise we hire it in, from The Cornish Camera Co. in West Cornwall or Falmouth University’s film school stores, which hire to outside productions on 24 hours’ notice: a Sony FX6 kit there is £200 a day plus VAT (checked October 2026). On the Lizard for Cohere, a lens came from The Cornish Camera Co. Bigger kit comes down from Bristol or London, and kit we hire in goes on at the same 10% + 2%.

Can you book a studio in Cornwall?

Yes, on the same quote as the crew. Screen Cornwall says Cornwall has no film studios, and the nearest stages are The Bottle Yard in Bristol. Falmouth University hires out its film school studios: Studio 1 is 154 square metres, at £750 a day plus VAT (checked October 2026). Converted farm buildings and empty industrial units make pop-up studios too. We check what’s free for your dates, and on a crew hire the studio goes on at the same 10% + 2% as everything else we book.

Can you be the employer of record for an overseas production?

Not in the payroll sense: most UK film crew are freelance. Instead, your contract is with us, a UK company. We contract and pay the UK crew, hold £10m employers’ liability, and send one invoice, so you don’t need a UK company to shoot in Cornwall. Your own travelling team stays on your payroll, and can fly into Cornwall Airport Newquay from London Stansted or Manchester, or take the Night Riviera sleeper from Paddington. If you’d rather we ran it as your production service company, we’re the producer of record and our policy covers the shoot, £10m public liability included.

What does the insurance on a crew booking cover?

Two things. Employers’ liability for every crew member we book, up to £10m, and insurance on the kit we hire in for you. That’s what the 2% pays for. A large kit rental may need extra insurance, as its own line on the quote. The 2% doesn’t insure the rest of the shoot: public liability, the location, your own kit and anything you book yourself stay with you, because you’re the producer of record. If you’d rather we were, it’s quoted as a full production, and our insurance covers the whole shoot, public liability included. In Cornwall, the council asks for £5m public liability with every FilmApp application (checked October 2026), and on a crew hire the certificate it wants is yours.
