An exhibition film, artist profiles and a destination campaign for Tate St Ives, since our first commission in autumn 2022.

Our first Tate commission was a film for Tate Members on Barbara Hepworth: Art & Life, with interviews at Porthmeor Studios in St Ives and drone shots over Goonhilly. Then came artist profiles: Ro Robertson for Modern Thresholds, and Outi Pieski, the Sámi artist, preparing her first major UK exhibition. In 2025 we shot Yours To, a destination film for Tate St Ives, and recorded its voice-over at our Newquay office.

The Lost Gardens of Heligan
Heligan asked for a summer campaign that showed a place where children can run wild. Play. It’s in Our DNA was shot in one day around the rope bridge and the play area, with John Hersey on stills and two animated photo-album films alongside. Jungle Giants followed the next summer, with creative by Leap Creative. We also made The Regenerative Farm, a documentary filmed over a year and now shown in its own room at Heligan.

Whistlefish
Whistlefish’s first TV ad had to feel Cornish and work nationally. We wrote it around life’s big and small moments, cast two professional leads alongside real families, and shot it over two days in a single home and on the coast. We took it through Clearcast and delivered it through Peach, with texted and textless masters and 20- and 10-second cuts.

Airbnb: Guardians of Cornwall
In 2022 Airbnb’s favourability in Cornwall had fallen, and Nomads asked us for real residents, not actors. We street-cast in St Ives, Newquay, Falmouth and Bude, then shot four films in one week in Porthleven, Portreath, Newquay and central Cornwall, in-water sequences included. Independent polling after the campaign measured a rise four times the target.

The Living Layer
The South West Peatland Partnership asked us to follow its peatland restoration for a year. Restoration only happens between August and March, so we filmed through storms and frosts down to −14°C on Dartmoor, Exmoor, Bodmin Moor and West Penwith, following the work of 22 partner organisations and the people doing it.

Survival: To the Brink and Back
The explorer Robin Hanbury-Tenison was among the first people to catch COVID, and nearly died. We followed him from hospital to the top of Brown Willy, Cornwall’s highest point. It started as our own project; the BBC picked it up and recommissioned it as a 20-minute film, and the British Council made it a Featured Project in 2025.

Short documentary
The Sustainable Catch
When lockdown closed the export markets, Cornish fishermen were left with catches nobody was buying. We went out on the Atlantic Voyager from Newquay harbour and up to the Camel Estuary to make a short film about what came next.
We made it for Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Cornwall Good Seafood Guide, with four South West fishermen. The Guide used it to show other local fishermen the options when a supply chain fails, and to bring them into its sustainability work.

Creative development
A call on what the film has to do and who it’s for, then an idea and a treatment for you to sign off before anyone books a camera. Our team reads every brief within 2 working hours.

Pre-production
Scripts, casting, crew, kit and permissions. In Cornwall that can mean the National Trust, Natural England, a private estate and Cornwall Council, and weeks of notice for each.

Production
A crew and kit sized to the job, with a producer and a DOP on set. We crew from Cornwall where we can, and hire kit locally rather than drive it down.

Editing
Edit and motion graphics by our own post team. The first cut usually lands five to ten working days after the shoot, reviewed online with every version numbered.

The grade and the mix, then delivery in every format the plan needs: 16:9, 9:16, 1:1, captioned, and broadcast masters for TV.
Crew hire

For Cohere’s 35mm campaign we ran a 14-hour day on the Lizard in fog: three permits, no drones and no generators on a Site of Special Scientific Interest, twelve radios along a mile of cliff path, a lens from a rental house a few miles up the road and a tracking vehicle from Bristol. Bristol is over three hours from most of Cornwall, so we hire locally where we can.

Your team in Cornwall
Ed Smit and Ollie Couch met at university in Falmouth and started out making films for local businesses and charities. They still work from our Newquay office. Our post team is in London, and Cornish shoots are crewed from Cornwall where we can.
Along the way The Living Layer won overall at the Edinburgh Conservation Film Festival 2026, our BBC World documentary was recognised by the British Council, and we were Highly Commended for Best Small Agency (Global) at The Drum Awards.

What video production services do you offer?
All of it, or any part of it. Before the shoot: ideas, scripts, location scouting, casting, kit, permissions, shot lists and mood boards. On the day: crew, filming and interviews. Afterwards: editing, sound design and colour grading by our own post team. Some Cornish clients want the whole film; others want a crew for a day or an edit of footage they already have.

What experience do you have?
We started in Cornwall and have made 500+ productions since, for brands, broadcasters, charities and institutions. In Cornwall: films for Tate St Ives since 2022, a documentary for BBC World filmed on Bodmin Moor, Airbnb’s Guardians of Cornwall, Whistlefish’s first TV commercial, and The Living Layer, Overall Winner at the Edinburgh Conservation Film Festival 2026.
What equipment do you have?
We own Sony FX6 cinema cameras, cinema lenses, lighting, sound kit and drones, so most Cornish shoots run on our own kit. When a job needs more we hire it in the county, from local rental houses or Falmouth University’s stores; our guide to equipment rental in Cornwall has the rest.
Do you have insurance and permits for filming in Cornwall?
Yes. We carry £10m public liability and £10m employers’ liability cover, and we sort the permissions, which in Cornwall take time: the National Trust and Natural England for protected coast, private landowners, Cornwall Council for its harbours and for children’s performance licences, and drone flight permissions. One sequence on the Lizard for Cohere needed three permits.
Where is your Cornwall office?
Suite A2 in the Mount Wise Centre, 28 Mount Wise, Newquay TR7 2BJ, at the top of town. It’s where our founders work. Call before you visit, and we’ll put the kettle on.
Do you film outside Cornwall?

Can you film in the sea and on boats?
Yes. The in-water sequences for Airbnb’s Guardians of Cornwall were shot by our own crew, and The Sustainable Catch was filmed on a fishing boat out of Newquay harbour. We plan sea days around the tide and the forecast, and always with a fallback.
Do you make TV commercials?
Yes, from the script to Clearcast approval and delivery to broadcasters through Peach. Whistlefish’s first TV ad ran on ITV in the West with Sky AdSmart alongside. TV commercials start at £15,000. More on our TV commercial production page.
Do you work with agencies?
All the time. Airbnb’s Cornwall films came through Nomads, Heligan’s Jungle Giants through Leap Creative, and Kärcher’s Float to Live at Bude through MSL Group. We work under your name and your NDA, and join client calls as part of your team.
