Valentine Global emailed on 2 January 2025: a social spot for Nike and SNKRS, shooting in London on the 10th, after a sister shoot in New York. They needed a gaffer, a grip, a 1st and 2nd AC, sound and maybe a PA. They brought their own director, DOP and camera kit. We brought the London crew.

01The brief

A London crew around a US team.

Valentine brought the creative: a director, a DOP, an executive producer and a creative director, with their own camera package.

New York had shot a few days earlier, with someone else in front of the camera. London’s was an artist in his own studio in Woolwich. The plan: a hero video in the studio, then B-roll outside it and at a second location nearby.

We quoted on 3 January, had the crew on hold by the 6th and signed the contract on the 8th, two days out.

Questions

Crewing a shoot for a visiting agency

Can you crew around a director and DOP flying in from abroad?

Yes. Valentine Global brought its own director, DOP, executive producer, creative director and camera kit for Nike SNKRS, and we supplied the London crew: a gaffer, a spark, a 1st and 2nd AC, a sound recordist and the van.

How fast can you put a London crew together?

Valentine’s enquiry came on 2 January 2025 and we shot on the 10th: quote on the 3rd, crew on hold by the 6th, contract on the 8th, recce on the 9th.

Do you supply camera assistants and a DIT?

Yes. On the Nike SNKRS shoot our 1st AC pulled focus and our 2nd AC doubled as DIT at the end of the day. See focus pullers in London and DITs in London.

What does a crew like this cost?

On crew hire, every crew member is paid their full day rate, and we add a 10% booking fee and 2% insurance to everything we book: crew, kit and travel.
