Magnet Media
Two podcast episodes for J.P. Morgan, on three cameras, 48 floors up in Canary Wharf.
Level 48, One Canada Square, 10 October 2024.
A New York agency needed a London crew for two podcast episodes with J.P. Morgan. One of Magnet’s former producers recommended us. Sixteen days later we were in the loading bay at six in the morning, and by one o’clock both episodes were shot and the set was packed down.
01The brief
Three cameras, two episodes, done by one.
The first ask was five cameras and two panels of four. By the shoot it was three cameras and two episodes: a host and one guest, then a host and two guests.
The space was a back-up. The client’s own office space fell through, so the shoot moved to Level 48 of One Canada Square, with Canary Wharf Group’s location team handling access.
Four Shure SM7B microphones sat on black arms on the desk, for the look of a podcast. The sound came from lavs on everyone and a boom.

Questions
Filming a podcast in a London office
Can you crew a multi-camera podcast in an office building?
Yes. For Magnet Media’s J.P. Morgan episodes we shot three cameras on Level 48 of One Canada Square: a locked-off wide on a Sony FX9, one on the host and one on the guests, with lavs on everyone and a boom.
Can you get a crew into Canary Wharf?
Yes. We sent vehicle details for the permit, a risk assessment and method statement, and had the vans registered at the loading bay for a six o’clock call. Magnet filed the permit itself, and Canary Wharf Group’s location team handled access.
Can you dress the set?
Yes. We booked an art director the day before, with Magnet’s sign-off, to dress the set and cover the logos in shot.
What does a crew like this cost?
On crew hire, every crew member is paid their full day rate, and we add a 10% booking fee and 2% insurance to everything we book: crew, kit and travel. If you want us as the producer of record, it’s a full production at 15% plus 5%.
