Fireside chats usually get filmed like the panel they came from: a wide shot and a switcher. We gave this one a brand film’s attention: cameras with chosen lenses, controlled light that flattered the speakers without sterilising the room, and sound recorded for nuance rather than volume.

How it was made

What a New York room asks for

A fireside chat looks simple on screen. In New York it meant the right room, the right paperwork and a crew that could change the plan on the day.

  • 01

    The room

A daylight loft on West 24th Street, booked for the day on Peerspace, with props sourced in New York. A room with character, not a ballroom with a logo wall.

  • 02

    The paperwork

A certificate of insurance naming the location, and the Mayor’s Office permit rules checked against the plan before anything was booked.

  • 03

    The crew

A New York crew, employed and insured for the job, with a camera operator and a camera added on the day.

  • 04

    The finish

Edit, grade and sound by our own post team: the long-form chat, the product interview, and cutdowns for LinkedIn and YouTube.

  • 05

    Then, Nevis × Focus

Five months later, Nevis’s own film: one afternoon on the Upper East Side, three half-hour interviews, then a three-way conversation on five cameras. The film

How much does a corporate video cost in New York?

Every corporate film we make in New York starts at $20,000, and most land between $20,000 and $75,000. The number moves with shoot days, how many cameras and speakers there are, the location, and how many cuts the edit has to produce: a long-form film with cutdowns costs more than a single edit. If you have your own editor and only need an interview crew, a DP and a sound recordist start at $2,255 for a 10-hour day, with our booking fee.

What is a fireside chat video?

A fireside chat video is a long-form, lightly structured conversation between two or three people, filmed so the audience watches them think. Firms use it for thought leadership, investor communication and launches, because it’s more credible than a scripted film and lasts longer than a soundbite. It works when it’s lit and shot with intent and edited to keep the rhythm of the conversation. Our AlTi × Nevis chat in Chelsea is an example.

How many cameras does a fireside chat need?

Three is the usual minimum: a wide that holds the room and a close shot on each speaker, so the edit can follow the conversation without cutting away. With three speakers, or a host who moves between them, a fourth camera earns its place. On the AlTi × Nevis chat we added a camera operator and a camera on the day.

Can you film in our Manhattan office?

Yes. Most Manhattan buildings ask for a certificate of insurance naming the building, and sometimes its managing agent, before a crew can load in, and many want the freight elevator booked and a load-in time agreed with security. We ask for the building’s requirements when we plan the shoot, so the COI and the timings are settled before the day.

Do we need a film permit for a corporate shoot in New York?

Usually not, if the shoot stays inside your building. A permit from the Mayor’s Office of Media and Entertainment covers filming on City property: equipment beyond hand-held cameras and tripods, parked production vehicles, or exclusive use of a street or park. It costs $500 for each 14-day period and needs $1,000,000 of general liability insurance naming the City of New York (checked October 2026). Exteriors on the sidewalk outside your office are where the question comes up.
