Calla Lilly Founder in a lab coat looking at her medical device.

Client: Calla Lily – Genre: Brand Film

Calla Lily, Founder Film

A founder film for Calla Lily, the women’s health company developing Callavid, a vaginal drug delivery device designed to improve how women access treatment. Shot across a single day in their London labs and office, this is now the lead piece of comms on their website, in investor pitch decks, and across fundraising conversations.

Calla Lily came to us as a pre-revenue startup with a clear problem: they had a genuinely innovative medical device, a clinical trial underway, and no film that explained who they were or why it mattered. They needed something that could introduce the founders, the mission, and the product to investors, partners, and patients, all from one production.

The Film

The original ask was straightforward: re-film an existing product demonstration video and elevate the quality. But after our first conversation with the team, the scope grew into something more useful, a single production day that would deliver a founder film covering who Calla Lily are, what Callavid does, and why it matters.

The film had to be scientifically accurate enough for a clinical trial ethics submission, emotionally compelling enough for an investor pitch, and accessible enough for patients encountering the product for the first time. Three audiences with three different thresholds for detail, served by one piece of work.

Core goals:

  • Create a founder-led brand film that positions Calla Lily for fundraising, partnerships, and patient trust.
  • Balance clinical accuracy with human storytelling , making complex medical technology feel approachable without oversimplifying the science.
  • Deliver a versatile asset that works on the website, in pitch decks, and across social, not a single-use film.

Our approach

1) Script and question development:

We developed the interview questions and script in-house, working closely with the Calla Lily team to ensure every claim was clinically accurate. Meg Amos led on creative production, shaping the narrative around the founders’ story rather than a product walkthrough.

2) Sensitive pre-production:

Before the shoot, Meg, ou in-house producer director, visited the Calla Lily office and labs in Finchley Road to understand the space, the light, and the logistics. We ordered a custom pastel colorama backdrop matched to the Calla Lily brand palette, and planned the day in two halves, product demo and founder interview in the morning, B-roll across the labs and office in the afternoon.

3) Lean crew, maximum output:

One shoot day. Meg producing. Nico on camera. The morning focused on the product demonstration, shot against the backdrop with an anatomical model, and the founder interview with Lara Zibners, which anchors the film. Rather than a scripted piece to camera, we shaped it as a conversation, drawing out the why behind the company and letting Lara’s clinical authority carry the narrative.

4) Post-production with precision:

We handled voiceover direction (selecting a natural, grounded read over a clinical tone), custom animation for the product sequences, and full sound design in-house. The edit went through multiple review rounds, working closely with the founding team on medical terminology, brand consistency, and regulatory language, before final delivery.

What the film delivers

  • For investors: a clear, compelling introduction to the company, the founders, and the market opportunity, the kind of film that opens a pitch deck.
  • For patients: an accessible, non-clinical explanation of what Callavid is and how it works, accurate enough for a clinical trial ethics submission.
  • For the brand: a hero asset that now sits at the centre of Calla Lily’s communications, on their website, across social, and in every fundraising conversation.

Why startups and healthcare brands choose Here Now Films

  • We understand regulated content. Over three years and 40+ films with KYN London, we’ve built a production process that accounts for consent, compliance review, and sensitive environments from day one — not as an afterthought.
  • We make complex things simple. From translating AlTi Tiedemann Global’s wealth management narrative into a film that screened at Davos, to making a medical device feel human for Calla Lily, we know how to take specialist subject matter and make it land.
  • Single-day productions that punch above their weight. Lean crew, thorough pre-production, maximum output. One day gave Calla Lily a founder film, a product demo, interview content, and a social content bank.
  • London-based, in-house delivery. Script, shoot, edit, animation, grade, and sound — all from our studio on City Road. No outsourcing the edit. No surprise freelancer fees.
